About

Pedro do Surfista

Born and raised in the state of Maine, I was instilled with a keen appreciation for nature from a very early age. I studied fishery biology at Colorado State University and worked seasonally in that field for the better part of a decade. It was during this time that I purchased my first digital SLR camera as a means to capture the wonder of the beautiful places that my work and travels took me.

In 2017, at a crossroads between fisheries as a science-based career and fly fishing as a passion-based pursuit, the universe interceded and I started guiding in Alaska. Since then, it has taken me almost from pole-to-pole, all the while with my camera in tow.

Photography has now become a driving force in my life, especially as an outlet for creativity. Most of my big life lessons have resulted from a shift in my personal perspective, and that’s how I approach my photography. I strive to find novel and interesting perspectives on and in the world around me, that I might share with others and expand their awareness or challenge their own perceptions. I love to seek out little details, fleeting moments, and the dance between light and shadows.
